There’s a lot of noise around birth.
From Google searches and podcasts to well-meaning advice from friends, colleagues…and yes, even your Aunty Maud. And while it comes (mostly) from a good place, it can leave you feeling more overwhelmed than informed.
Because suddenly, you’re trying to make sense of it all:
What actually matters?
What’s right
for me?
How will I handle it when the time comes?
So while I’m never here to tell you how you feel, if you are feeling daunted, nervous or fearful, it’s completely understandable.
After 7+ years of being right there with parents during birth, I’ve seen it time and time again:
The right preparation
changes everything.
(And that’s exactly where I come in)
“My husband and I took part in Elise’s Hypnobirthing group course and it was nothing short of amazing for both of us. It was incredibly educational/informative whilst also striking a great balance of being interactive and intimate. It was easily digestible and Elise created a really safe and comfortable space for the small group to engage with. I couldn’t recommend it enough!”

“Elise is a power house of knowledge and calming energy. She was able to make us feel informed and prepared - as much as we can be facing the unknown! Highly recommend leaning in to her teachings, embracing the hypnobirthing/sport-science endurance rational, and trusting in her support.”

“Elise’s hypnobirthing course was everything we didn’t know we needed! My husband and I did the two day course and learnt more about birth and my anatomy during pregnancy than you would learn anywhere else. I’m so grateful for Elise as she prepared me for labour, which turned out to be such an empowering experience and we got our beautiful natural water birth. ”

“The content of the course was outstanding, informative, empowering, and grounded in practical advice”
My husband and I couldn’t be happier with our decision to choose Elise and her hypnobirthing course to prepare for the arrival of our baby girl. Elise is incredibly knowledgeable and delivers the material in a clear, relatable way.
We also really enjoyed connecting with the other couples attending the course, which added to the overall experience. We wholeheartedly recommend it to any expecting parents.

Hi, I,m Elise
Birth coach + trusted doula at The Portland, London.
and Mum too!
Of course, this is where I could swoop in and say,
“No, no! Birth isn’t scary. You’ve got this.”
And while that reassurance can be comforting, I know it’s not what actually changes how birth feels. So let’s get to it:
Just like elite athletes train their minds for peak performance under pressure — and actors spend months (sometimes years) preparing for a defining moment — I help pregnant women train their mind and nervous system for birth, so they feel calm, capable and empowered in pregnancy, and as their birth experience unfolds.
Everything I teach is underpinned by my revolutionary approach to birth:
The Captain &
The Crew
Just like an athlete prepares
for a marathon
You can prepare for this incredible life moment; birth.
My signature methodology sets you up for optimal performance.
Your subconscious brain (the part working beneath your awareness) is the Crew.
It knows the job. It’s highly trained. And when conditions are right, it can get on with the work beautifully.
Your conscious brain (the part responsible for logic and decision-making) is the Captain. The Captain’s role isn’t to micromanage every move. It’s to understand what’s happening and stay calm under pressure
Because the Crew — your subconscious brain — is the only part that controls your labour.
When the thinking mind tries to take over, it can interrupt that flow. During this course, I teach you how to let the Captain step back, delegate, to trust the Crew to do what they’re designed to do.

"I first noticed the difference in women who had prepared with Elise before I even knew exactly what she was teaching. They arrived in labour noticeably calmer, more confident and exceptionally well informed. As an obstetrician, that makes a real difference. Elise’s approach is evidence-based, practical and refreshingly free from the ‘woo’. She prepares women for the realities of birth, whatever path it takes, and I see the benefits of that preparation and the support she provides time and time again”
Let’s recap, why choose this group course?
↠ Created with “on the ground” doula experience supporting parents giving birth
↠ Expert-led, evidence-based teaching you can trust
↠ A clear, structured approach that removes overwhelm
↠ Practical tools you can actually use during pregnancy and labour
↠ A small, considered group setting for a more supportive experience
↠ Held within The Portland — alongside leading obstetric care
“We recently attended Elise’s hypnobirthing class and couldn’t recommend it more highly. Elise is a brilliant and calming teacher who delivers a wealth of useful information in a really accessible way. She equips you with practical techniques to feel calm, confident, and prepared for birth. We left feeling informed, empowered, and genuinely ready for what’s ahead.”
emily
“We absolutely loved our hypnobirthing group course with Elise. I went in open-minded but apprehensive about Labour, with so many gaps in my knowledge and understanding about the process. Elise is knowledgeable, calming and the information she shared was perfectly delivered and practical. I can now go into my final few weeks of pregnancy calm and prepared.”
lisa
“I can't recommend Elise’s course highly enough to any expecting parents. It's wonderfully practical, thoroughly enjoyable, and Elise provides invaluable tools for approaching birth in a positive light. Her teaching style is warm, humorous, and incredibly generous—we've emerged feeling truly supported.”

I run private, 1:1 hypnobirthing courses, tailored to your needs.
“We had such a positive birth experience, and I attribute so much of that to the work we did with Elise.”
My husband and I did Elise’s hypnobirthing course around two months before our baby was due. It was by far the best thing we did to prepare for the birth and arrival of our baby.
Elise presents all the information and options in a way that is non-biased and tailored to your specific feelings and anxieties.
Most importantly she taught me how to advocate for myself in a system that can sometimes behave like there’s only one option.

Yes. I’ll help you understand what’s happening in your body and give you practical tools to feel calmer and more in control.
If you feel you’d benefit from more personalised, in-depth support, a private 1:1 course may be a better fit, and I’m always happy to advise. -
You’re very welcome to join. My approach is grounded in physiology, psychology and practical application, so many parents find it offers a deeper, clearer understanding, even if they’ve already done some preparation.
-
If you’ve done a course with me before, you may not need to repeat the full course. I offer refresher sessions for returning clients, which can be tailored to what you need this time around, whether that’s rebuilding confidence, revisiting key tools, or preparing for a different kind of birth experience. Feel free to get in touch and I can guide you to the best option.
-
I run group courses on selected dates throughout the year.
To keep the experience small and considered, spaces are limited, so dates can fill quickly. If you don’t see something that works for you, you’re very welcome to get in touch and I can let you know about upcoming availability. -
If the current dates don’t work for you, you can either join a future group or explore the private 1:1 course, which offers more flexibility.
-
Birth partners are warmly encouraged to attend, but you’re absolutely welcome to join on your own if you’d prefer. You’ll have a comprehensive workbook that accompanies the course, designed with you both in mind. It includes a 6-page “Birth Partner’s Guide” with really practical takeaways drawn from my experience supporting births on the day. If, following the course you feel it would be helpful, I can also offer follow-up focused 1:1 sessions to bring everything together for you as a team in a really practical, tailored way.
-
I usually recommend joining between 20–35 weeks of pregnancy. If you’re outside of that window, feel free to get in touch and I can guide you on what would work best for you.
